Synopsis

KUKLOS BLACK is a short film about the duality of his main character, Tafari.

He spend the first 10 years of his life where he was born, Sierra Leone, he was surrounded by extreme poverty and violence an death between the conflict of guerrillas. The 10 following years he lived protected by a foster family in Barcelona. First and third world found. When he was 20 he found himself in a moral limbo, in a “second world”, where the line between good and bad was more than blurred. This will be shown through the small violent, anti-racist group that he leads, as opposed to the relationship with his parents where he is seen as a young and good role model as they have no idea what he is really up to.

Who we are

Kuklos Black technical and artistic team consists of approximately fifty people. We are a team with professional degrees and experience. We are looking to transform our name into a brand quality assurance that would allow us in the future to be able to live our dream which is making films and express ourselves artistically. The word “art” has a deep meaning for us that mark our steps. It’s a need. We are working on every single detail from lights to props, going through costumes, scripts, film direction, sound… We will spend a year working on a 26 minute short film, a year or whatever it takes to make it perfect, without getting paid only because we love what we do

Declaration of intentions

Kuklos means “circle” in Greek and it is the origin of the word that the founders of Ku Klux Klan used for their organisation, ironically this organisation was created as a social club where young people could find fun an entertainment. We are presenting a contemporary Ku Klux Klan and vice versa (Black people against white people) as a pretext to portray how and why violence can start in our society.

Where your donations will go.

All the donations will go to expenses for the short film. We won’t have any salaries, everything will be spend on equipment. The more donations we have the better equipment will be, better cameras, better spot lights, better travelling, better sound, and we will specially be working hard on everything related to art and costumes. We are used to work with low budgets, trying to find equipment that the team, relatives or friends already owe, however, we feel the need to improve quality wise, that’s why we are coming to you through Verkami.

About the rewards.

We are thinking about the rewards as a encouragement, we don’t believe it will be the key to reach our budget but it will be a nice way for you to be part of our project that hopefully will be a success once is finish.

Schedule.

Our plan is to adjust as much as possible to the schedule:

End of March: technical and cast team sorted, locations sorted and start constructing.

Mid April: technical script with the storyboard closed.

Mid May: final rehersals and all departments ready for filming.

June: filming (14 days)

July: post-production.

August: Rewards delivered and broadcasting to festivals.
